Something rotten waits beyond the boundaries of Ennis, Alaska, where windswept wastes and icy lakes look to swallow the unwary. In an opening trailer packed with exposition and more than a little Detective Danvers (Jodie Foster), 8 scientists are the human popsicles that give season 4 its backbone in True Detective: Night Country.

Carrying the telltale signs of sacrificial rites, and signifiers harking back to Season 1, this icy Alaskan instalment from the award-winning HBO series welcomes back Kali Reis (Evangeline Navarro) and new recruit Christopher Eccleston (Ted Corsaro).

Hemmed in by perpetual darkness with a grizzly group of victims bearing the scars of murder most horrid, Danvers and Navarro must team up one last time to close this latest chapter. Forced to explore parts of themselves that are best left untouched, these reluctant partners in crime are destined to find out much more than either one might like by the end.

Under the guidance of new showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer Issa Lopez – True Detective Night Country is guaranteed to reveal all come 14 January on HBO/Max in the US and 15 January in the UK via Sky and NOW.
