Adapted by show runner Marissa Jo Cerar from Charmaine Wilkerson’s New York Times best-selling novel, Black Cake is an eight-part ensemble drama with a murderous mystery running it, that spans decades and launches on Disney+ this January.

Truly global in its ambition, this limited series travels from Jamaica through to Italy, onto Scotland, encompassing England, Wales and Southern California, telling the story of a runaway bride named Covey (Mia Isaac) who disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica in the 1960s.

In present day California, a widow named Eleanor Bennett (Chipo Chung), loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron (Ashley Thomas) and Benny (Adrienne Warren), a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America.

Ahead of its January release Disney+ have released intriguing new images and an evocative trailer to prepare audiences for this tumultuous tale.

Black Cake is released on Disney+ from 31 January.
